FUNdKIDS (www.fundkids.org)
The Wildlands Conservancy (TWC) is a non-government, non-profit California corporation dedicated to enhancing the lives of disadvantaged, at-risk urban youth through profound, yet fun, outdoor camping and education experiences. An introduction to the beauty of the natural world leads to self-discovery. These less fortunate youth experience the wondrous world beyond their neighborhoods that includes mountains, beaches, forest, lakes and streams that are part of the 623 million acres of public land they collectively own as Americans and the 100,000 plus acres that are owned by TWC and are open to the public.
It is impossible to define the reaction of youths participating in these programs when they enter a new natural world so close to their homes yet so far away. Many of the participating youth have never been out of their own, often dangerous neighborhoods. In the outdoor environment they learn there are other worlds, options and choices available to them.
To date, TWC has provided funding for over 140,000 youths to participate in outdoor programs. TWC does not accept government monies. All funding is from private, tax-deductible donations. TWC has purchased tens of thousands of acres of wild lands and opened them up to the public and to the thousands of needy children who participate in their programs. Although TWC is a conservancy, they respect private property rights and do not oppose development.
TWC will be happy to work with you in tailoring a donation to fit your financial and personal needs. You may donate to TWC or FUNdKIDS. One hundred percent of the money donated to FUNdKIDS is used to fund disadvantaged children's participation in outdoor programs.
